The Positive Impact of Music on Mood
The Harvard Health Publishing journal reported on a study focused on the effectiveness of music therapy. The study found listening to music, singing and other forms of music therapy “can create significant improvements in mental health and smaller improvements in physical health–related quality of life.” Researchers sum it up by saying music offers a positive impact on the psychological quality of life; and is an easy way to raise spirits and help us feel better.
So if we feel music makes us happier and more relaxed, it is not our imagination. AARP quotes Laurie Keough, a clinical associate professor of music therapy at Nazareth College in Rochester, New York, who explains, “Music is processed all throughout the brain;” which is why it is applicable in so many different situations.
Music therapy is an established form of therapy with a lot of evidence of the benefits. These include improving health care goals like decreasing anxiety, improving mood and decreasing pain perception among others. Since listening to music is one of the best ways to get the benefits; it is easy for all of us to do.
Researchers say as we listen to music, it triggers the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that's part of the brain's reward system, making us feel happier. It can also distract from negative thoughts and help us focus on more pleasurable emotions. A soothing playlist can be used to quiet the mind to help transition to sleep. Moreover, as music is known to bridge social connections, many senior living communities hold group sing-a-longs, which are not only fun but support studies showing singing improves language, memory and processing of information.
Other studies show the power of music to trigger memories in people suffering from dementia. It can help them feel connected to others, even when verbal communication is difficult as music memories remain in the brain long after other memories fade. Some dementia patients are able to sing or dance to songs from their childhood even after normal forms of communication no longer exist.

The Facts About Arthritis
In an article in Medical News Today experts discuss some of the common myths and facts regarding arthritis, a condition that causes pain and inflammation in joints. Osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are the two main types of arthritis, and a national survey found nearly half of adults 65 years and older have been diagnosed with arthritis. OA, the most common form and leading cause of disability in older adults, is the result of cartilage between the bones in a joint wearing down.
Many people believe arthritis is only a disease of the elderly but RA, while not as common as OA, typically starts in individuals as young as 20 to 40 years old. People also mistakenly think if a joint hurts, it must be arthritis. Doctors say there are several reasons a person may experience pain in and around joints including old injuries, bursitis, and tendinitis.
Another myth is you shouldn’t exercise if you have arthritis; however, studies show exercise can actually help with range of motion and strength in the joint (consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new exercise or activity). The American College of Rheumatology says, “Exercise and arthritis can and should coexist. People with arthritis who exercise regularly have less pain, more energy, improved sleep, and better day-to-day function.”
Then there is the debate on whether heat is better than ice for sore joints. The Guy’s and St Thomas’s National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust in the UK, explains, “Used in the right way, heat can help reduce pain and stiffness in joints and muscles. Cold application can help reduce joint inflammation and swelling.” Moreover, experts say believing arthritis is unpreventable is only partially true as there are things people can do to mitigate risk or slow down the progression such as maintaining a healthy body weight.

Get the Care You Want by Creating a Living Will
Many times people put off creating a living will, also known as a health care power of attorney, because they don’t understand how important it is to have one; or they fear they are giving up too much control over their life. The medical community explains the reason you need one is to ensure you get the type of care you want when you can no longer speak for yourself.
The Harvard Medical School says before you create a living will there are a few things to consider including separating fact from fiction. To start with, think about what quality of life means to you. Sometimes having extraordinary measures taken to save your life doesn’t factor in where such treatments will leave you. Having a living will can help guide your medical team on just such decisions.
Some people worry if they choose to refuse certain life-sustaining medical treatments to prolong life even when death is inevitable that it will invalidate their life insurance policy. Medical professionals explain there is no reason to worry as the recorded cause of death will be from the person’s underlying medical condition. Another common concern is if medical treatment is started, it can’t be stopped. This too is not true as treatment plans can always be updated and revised to address current circumstances.
Medical professionals want patients to know treatment can be started or stopped. Even if you refuse certain life sustaining treatments, it does not mean you won’t get other types of treatment such as intensive comfort care to help manage pain and symptoms.
Seniors especially should be aware a new directive has pretty much replaced a DNR (do not resuscitate), which only gives EMS permission to not perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). A POLST (physician orders for life-sustaining treatment) can include a DNR as well as provide more instruction regarding medical interventions such as intubation, antibiotic use and feeding tubes. Talk to your medical provider to learn more.

A Day in Motion
Margaret, a resident in senior housing Santa Fe NM, shares how adding movement to her day has transformed her life. “I used to think I was too old to exercise, but now I walk with a group every morning,” she said. “It’s not just about staying fit—it’s about laughing with friends and feeling energized for the rest of the day.”Community Support for Active Living
Many senior communities offer fitness programs tailored to meet residents’ needs. From water aerobics to guided stretching sessions, these activities make staying active safe and accessible for everyone.Physical activity doesn’t have to mean hours at the gym. Even small steps—like walking around your community or trying a new class—add up to big benefits for your body and mind. The key is to keep moving, no matter how you do it.
A Change in Walking Gait May Be an Early Sign of Alzheimer's Disease
Several studies, including one from the journal Current Biology, report the way a senior walks may be messaging something about their future cognitive health. Researchers say walking relies on a person’s navigational skills, which demands mental engagement.
The slowing of a person’s walking pace is one of the things studies are looking at as an early warning sign of Alzheimer’s disease. People may start to take smaller steps and drift from side to side as well as exhibit poor balance and a history of frequent falls. Ryan Glatt, a certified personal trainer, senior brain health coach, and director of the FitBrain Program at Pacific Neuroscience Institute in California, told Medical News Today, “In clinical settings, gait-based tests can be helpful for determining fall risk, especially with distractions, and perhaps can be part of a more comprehensive cognitive evaluation in the near future.”
Other studies report that people with early Alzheimer’s disease have difficulty turning when walking. Researchers say the problem was not detected in older, healthy participants who suffered from mild cognitive impairment, suggesting the problem is specific to Alzheimer’s. Glatt explained the reason might be connected to changes in the hippocampus, a region of the brain partially responsible for spatial memory that helps to control visuospatial navigation.
Another early warning sign of Alzheimer’s is an altered sense of a person’s environmental perceptions. For example, a person may struggle to understand objects, and become confused by thinking something is 2D when it is really 3D; or vice versa.
Dr. Jonathan Fellows, who leads the Michigan Institute for Neurological Disorders, Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Disorder Center, adds, “Observation of gait is an important assessment in the diagnosis of various dementias, including Alzheimer disease, as patients with this disorder can have what is called dyspraxia, or difficulty doing a previously learned task – in this case walking or turning.” Researchers explained that some of the problems that appear to be specific to Alzheimer’s might allow doctors to diagnose patients earlier; and without the need for blood, spinal fluid or speech tests.

The Art of Mindful Living: Being Present in Daily Life
In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to feel like life is rushing by. Mindful living encourages us to slow down and focus on the present moment, bringing a sense of calm and clarity. For residents in senior living Santa Fe NM, practicing mindfulness can turn ordinary days into opportunities for joy and reflection.
What Is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and engaged in the moment, without judgment or distraction. It’s about noticing your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings without letting them overwhelm you.The Benefits of Mindful Living
- Reduces Stress
- Improves Focus
- Enhances Emotional Well-Being
- Supports Physical Health
Ways to Practice Mindfulness
Mindful Breathing
Take a few moments each day to focus on your breath. Inhale slowly through your nose for four counts, hold for four counts, and exhale through your mouth for four counts.Savor Your Meals
Pay attention to the flavors, textures, and smells of your food. Eating slowly and mindfully makes meals more enjoyable and satisfying.Take Mindful Walks
Focus on the sensation of your feet touching the ground, the sounds around you, and the sights in your environment. This is a wonderful way to connect with nature.Engage Fully in Activities
Whether it’s knitting, painting, or gardening, immerse yourself in the task at hand. Notice how it feels to use your hands, the colors, and the textures involved. How Communities Foster Mindfulness
In senior living Santa Fe NM, mindfulness is often incorporated into daily life through activities like yoga, meditation classes, or even quiet spaces for reflection. Group sessions allow residents to share experiences and encourage one another.A Simple Mindfulness Exercise
Here’s an easy practice to try:- Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
- Take a deep breath and notice how it feels.
- Focus on one thing you can hear, one thing you can feel, and one thing you can smell.
- Stay in the moment for a minute or two.
A More Present Way of Living
Mindfulness doesn’t require special equipment or a big time commitment—just the willingness to be present. By incorporating small moments of mindfulness into your daily life in senior living, you can create a sense of peace and gratitude that enriches every day.Skin Cancer Basics
The Skin Cancer Foundation reports that the most common cancer in the US is of the skin and strikes one in five people by age 70. The good news is 99 percent of all cases are curable if they are diagnosed and treated early enough. However, to spot skin cancer, we need to look for it, which is why doctors recommend adults to do a routine skin check once a month and have a skin check with a dermatologist at least once a year.
Since we are the best ones to notice any changes in our skin, it helps to know what to look for. Experts explain skin cancers appear in many shapes and sizes, and warning signs are associated with the different types of skin cancers. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) (also called basal cell skin cancer) is the most common type of skin cancer accounting for 8 out of 10 cases. Basal cell cancer starts in the basal cell layer (the lower part of the epidermis).
The Mayo Clinic explains that squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) develops in the squamous cells that make up the middle and outer layers of the skin. While not life-threatening, it can be aggressive and typically occurs on sun-exposed skin including the scalp, the backs the hands, ears or lips, but can also occur on any part of the body.
Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer and generally develops anywhere in the body that has been exposed to UV light. Additionally, it may be found in spots not typically exposed to sunlight such as the bottom of the feet. The Mayo Clinic says melanoma can start as a change in an existing mole or a development of a new pigmented or unusual-looking growth on the skin.
It is important to avoid UV light from the sun or tanning beds as it is one of the top culprits to damaging and aging the skin as well as causing skin cancer. Make an appointment with your healthcare provider if you have a sore or scab that doesn't heal or a flat patch of scaly skin that doesn’t go away.

Enjoy Built-in Companionship at MorningStar of Albuquerque
While we tend to think of assisted living communities as offering senior care services, amenities and wellness programs, there is one thing many people forget about. At MorningStar of Albuquerque, we call it built-in companionship. In other words, the easy camaraderie that develops between residents as well as between residents and our dedicated team.
Research continues to add to the growing evidence regarding the value of companionship and the benefit it offers to seniors. Studies prove time and time again that socialization among older adults not only keeps the brain sharp, but it can even decrease the risk of developing dementia. Unfortunately in today’s society, too many older adults say they feel isolated, which also puts them at risk for depression.
Experts say along with helping to keep the elderly mentally sharp, socialization increases a person’s sense of belonging. Knowing someone is there you can count on during life’s ups and downs is important. In fact, older adults with a good social network appear to have higher self-esteem and feel more confident.
Friends help us realize the importance of prioritizing our personal health and make it more likely we continue to take care of ourselves. Another benefit of a strong social life is it gives our lives meaning and purpose, and keeps us more engaged and excited about life.
At MorningStar of Albuquerque, our goal is to promote physical, intellectual, spiritual and social wellbeing. We provide everything older adults need for quality of life and to age in place safely and comfortably. Along with luxury amenities and care services; our signature wellness programs and activities are designed to engage and encourage residents to live fully productive lives.
In addition, for those suffering from Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diseases, we provide compassionate, all-inclusive memory care. Please contact us to schedule a tour for a firsthand look at exceptional senior living in Albuquerque.

How to Strengthen Your Immune System Naturally
Staying healthy doesn’t have to be complicated. Your immune system is already working hard every day to keep you well, but with a little extra care, you can give it the boost it needs to stay strong. And the best part? You don’t need fancy supplements or extreme changes—just a few simple, natural habits can make all the difference.
Take Marjorie from senior apartments Phoenix, for example. She’s in her 80s and has been through her fair share of flu seasons without so much as a sniffle. Her secret? “I stick to the basics,” she says. “Good food, fresh air, and enough rest. It’s not magic—it’s just what works.”
What Keeps Your Immune System Strong
The immune system is like a protective shield, constantly working to fight off germs and keep your body running smoothly. To keep it in top shape in senior apartments, it needs the right fuel and a little TLC.Simple Ways to Boost Your Immunity
- Focus on whole foods: A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats provides the vitamins and minerals your body needs. Vitamin C and zinc are especially important. Think citrus fruits, bell peppers, nuts, and seeds.
- Move your body regularly: Exercise, even gentle activities like walking or stretching, improves circulation and helps immune cells move efficiently.
- Get quality sleep: Your immune system does its best repair work while you’re sleeping. Aim for 7-8 hours each night to give it the rest it needs.
- Stay hydrated: Water flushes out toxins and keeps your body functioning at its best. Herbal teas are a great alternative if plain water feels boring.
- Take a moment to relax: Chronic stress weakens the immune system. Find ways to unwind, whether it’s through meditation, a favorite hobby, or simply spending time with loved ones.
Don’t Forget the Sun
Vitamin D is essential for immune health, and just a little time outdoors can help your body produce what it needs. A short walk around memory care Phoenix or sitting on your patio for 15-20 minutes a day can give you that natural boost.Make It Routine
The trick is consistency. Small changes add up over time. Start with one or two habits—like drinking more water or adding an extra serving of vegetables to your meals—and build from there. It’s not about doing everything perfectly. It’s about taking small steps every day to care for yourself. With a little attention to what your body needs, you’ll feel stronger and more prepared to take on whatever comes your way.

Navigating Major Life Transitions with Grace
Let’s talk about change—it’s never easy, right? Whether it’s moving to a new home, retiring after decades of work, or adjusting to health challenges, transitions can feel like someone’s taken your neatly organized life and flipped it upside down. Here in our senior living Phoenix community, we see this all the time. But here’s the thing: while transitions might be tough, they’re also full of opportunities to grow, connect, and create a life that truly fits where you are now.
Why Change Feels So Overwhelming
When you’re in the middle of a big life transition, it’s not just about logistics. Sure, packing boxes or managing new routines can be stressful, but it’s the emotions tied to these changes that often weigh the heaviest. You might feel grief over leaving behind what’s familiar, fear about the unknown, or even frustration about losing a bit of independence. And that’s okay. Those feelings are normal. The good news? You don’t have to face them alone, and there are ways to make the process feel a little less daunting.
Steps to Navigate Big Changes
Here are a few strategies to help you move through transitions with a bit more ease:Acknowledge your feelings
Don’t brush off your emotions. Whether you’re sad, nervous, or even excited, letting yourself feel those things is an important part of the process.Break it into smaller pieces
Big changes can feel overwhelming if you try to tackle everything at once. Focus on one thing at a time—whether it's packing a single box or setting up one new routine.Find your support system
Whether it’s family, friends, or your community, having people you can lean on makes a world of difference even in senior living.Celebrate small wins
Did you unpack a room? Meet someone new? Find a new favorite spot for morning coffee? Those little victories add up and help build confidence.
The Power of Community
One of the best parts about being in a memory care Phoenix community is having people around who’ve been through similar experiences. That shared understanding makes it easier to connect and feel supported. From group activities to casual chats in the common areas, these moments remind us we’re all in this together.Finding the Upside
Here’s something to remember: transitions, as hard as they are, often come with hidden blessings. Maybe it’s a chance to simplify your life, discover new passions, or build new friendships. It doesn’t mean the change isn’t hard—but it does mean there’s hope and growth on the other side of it.No one said navigating life’s big changes would be easy, but with patience, support, and an open mind, you’ll find your way. And who knows? The next chapter might just surprise you in the best way possible.

Exploring Different Types of Physical Activities
Here’s the thing: staying active doesn’t have to mean running a marathon or signing up for intense workouts. In fact, it shouldn’t. It’s all about moving in ways that feel good for you, whether that’s stretching, walking, or even dancing in your living room.
Why is physical activity so important? Well, it helps with just about everything. Regular movement keeps your muscles strong, improves balance, boosts your mood, and even sharpens your memory. Plus, let’s be honest—it feels good to keep up with grandkids, enjoy long walks, or simply get out of bed without feeling stiff.

Almost anything that gets you moving! And trust me, there’s something for everyone:Stretching or yoga
Perfect for improving flexibility and balance. Chair yoga is a great option if getting on the floor isn’t your thing.Walking

The Role of Apples in Weight Management
Here’s something you might not have thought about—apples can be your secret weapon for maintaining a healthy weight. In our senior living Phoenix community, we’re all about finding simple, everyday foods that pack a punch when it comes to nutrition, and apples do just that.
What makes apples an excellent choice for weight management?
It primarily stems from their remarkable blend of fiber, water content, and natural sweetness. A medium-sized apple, for instance, is surprisingly low in calories while boasting approximately 4 grams of dietary fiber. This fiber is incredibly effective—it not only helps to keep you feeling satisfied for longer periods but also slows down the digestive process. As a result, you’re less likely to experience those pesky mid-afternoon cravings, making it easier to maintain a balanced diet. How Apples Work for You
Think of an apple as a multitasker:Natural Appetite Control
Apples are rich in water and fiber, making them filling and reducing the chances of reaching for high-calorie snacks.Blood Sugar Balance
With a low glycemic index, apples release sugar into the bloodstream slowly, helping to prevent energy spikes and crashes.Boosting Metabolism
The antioxidants found in apples, particularly in the skin, may aid in supporting metabolism and improving the body's ability to burn calories efficiently in senior living.Simple Ways to Add Apples to Your Day
If biting into a whole apple feels a little basic, there are plenty of creative ways to enjoy them:- Slice them up and pair with almond butter for a balanced snack.
- Add diced apples to your oatmeal for natural sweetness.
- Toss them into a spinach salad with walnuts and a light vinaigrette.
- Bake them with a sprinkle of cinnamon for a healthy dessert.
Why Consistency Matters
Adding apples to your routine is easy, but the key is making it a habit. Swapping out a processed snack for an apple every day might seem small, but those little changes add up over time. Apples are also versatile and portable, which makes them perfect for busy days or on-the-go activities. And let’s not forget the bigger picture. Weight management isn’t about deprivation—it’s about finding foods that nourish you and keep you satisfied. Apples fit the bill perfectly, offering a natural, affordable, and delicious way to support your health goals.

Winter Skincare: Protecting Against Dryness
Winter in Phoenix might not mean snowstorms, but it sure brings its own set of challenges—especially when it comes to dry skin. Here in our retirement communities Phoenix, we hear it all the time: “Why does my skin feel so tight?” or “Is it just me, or is everyone itching this season?” Dry, flaky skin isn’t just annoying; it can be downright uncomfortable. But don’t worry—we’ve got you covered with tips to keep your skin hydrated and happy.
First off, let’s talk about why this happens. Winter air lacks humidity, which pulls moisture away from your skin. On top of that, indoor heating systems (while cozy) zap the air of any remaining moisture. It’s like your skin is stuck in a battle against dryness 24/7. And as we age, our skin naturally produces less oil, which means it’s harder to stay hydrated.
Simple Tips to Save Your Skin
Here’s the good news: protecting your skin doesn’t require a trip to the spa. Just a few tweaks to your daily routine in memory care Phoenix can make all the difference:- Moisturize immediately after bathing: Timing is everything. Apply a rich, fragrance-free cream or lotion while your skin is still damp. It locks in moisture better than waiting until later.
- Keep your showers warm, not hot: I know a steaming shower feels amazing, but hot water strips your skin of its natural oils. Stick to warm water, and your skin will thank you.
- Use a humidifier: Adding moisture back into the air can work wonders for dry skin—and it’s great for your sinuses too.
- Drink water throughout the day: Staying hydrated helps your skin from the inside out. Keep a water bottle handy as a reminder.
- Protect your hands: They’re one of the first places to show dryness. Wear gloves when cleaning or gardening, and keep a hand cream nearby.
One of our senior apartments Phoenix residents, Alice, shared how she keeps her skin soft all winter. “Last year, I didn’t do much about it, and my hands cracked so badly they bled. This year, I started using a thick lotion after every shower, and I even put a little on before bed with cotton gloves. It’s made a huge difference, and I don’t wake up with that tight, dry feeling anymore.”
Winter doesn’t have to mean battling itchy, uncomfortable skin. A few simple changes, like Alice’s routine, can keep your skin feeling great all season long. Plus, taking care of your skin is a small act of self-care—and we could all use a little more of that, right? So grab your favorite moisturizer and show your skin some love!

The Connection Between Diabetes and Glaucoma
When it comes to managing diabetes, many people concentrate primarily on controlling blood sugar levels and following nutritional guidelines. However, an equally important aspect that often gets overlooked is eye health. Within our senior apartments Phoenix community, we are keenly aware of how diabetes can affect multiple facets of an individual's overall well-being. One critical eye condition that deserves attention is glaucoma, which can be significantly influenced by diabetes. Understanding this connection is essential for ensuring comprehensive care and maintaining the quality of life for those living with diabetes.
What’s the Link?
Diabetes affects the blood vessels throughout your body, including the tiny, delicate ones in your eyes. This damage, known as diabetic retinopathy, increases your risk of developing glaucoma. Glaucoma occurs when fluid builds up in the eye, causing increased pressure that can damage the optic nerve. For individuals with diabetes, the risk of glaucoma is nearly double that of those without the condition. This isn't something to overlook—left untreated, glaucoma can lead to irreversible vision loss.
Understanding Glaucoma
Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight” because it progresses slowly and doesn’t always present noticeable symptoms in the early stages. That’s why regular eye exams are critical for early detection.Symptoms that may indicate glaucoma include:
- Gradual loss of peripheral vision
- Eye pain or pressure
- Blurred vision or halos around lights
- Trouble adjusting to dim lighting
Protecting Your Vision
Managing the risks associated with diabetes and glaucoma requires a proactive approach:Maintain steady blood sugar levels
High blood sugar damages blood vessels, so aim for consistent glucose management through diet, exercise, and medication if needed.Schedule annual comprehensive eye exams
Specialized tests like tonometry (which measures eye pressure) and visual field testing can detect early signs of glaucoma.Monitor blood pressure
Elevated blood pressure adds to the strain on your eyes, so keeping it in a healthy range is essential.Stay active
Regular physical activity improves circulation, which benefits eye health as well as overall wellness. Why It Matters
Addressing the connection between diabetes and glaucoma isn’t just about preventing vision loss—it’s about maintaining independence and quality of life. Taking small, consistent steps to prioritize eye health can make a significant difference over time.At its core, health management is about understanding how interconnected your body systems are. By staying informed and working closely with healthcare providers in memory care Phoenix, you can reduce risks and protect what matters most: your health and your vision.

The Role of Sleep in Memory Consolidation
Let’s face it—getting enough sleep can be a challenge, especially as we age. Here in our senior living Phoenix community, it’s a topic that often pops up during morning coffee. “Did you sleep well?” isn’t just small talk—it’s something we all care about. Sleep isn’t just about rest; it plays a huge role in keeping our brains sharp and our memories intact.
You’ve probably heard someone joke about their “senior moments,” but there’s some truth to the connection between sleep and memory. While you’re dreaming away, your brain is working overtime to sort and store everything you experienced that day. Without enough rest, your brain doesn’t get the chance to organize those memories properly.
Why Sleep Matters for Memory
Think of your brain like a library. Throughout the day, you’re collecting books (or memories) and stacking them on a table. When you sleep, your brain takes those books and neatly shelves them where they belong. But if you cut sleep short, the books stay scattered, making it harder to find them later. That’s why a good night’s sleep can make all the difference in recalling names, dates, or even where you left your glasses!Mary, in senior apartments Phoenix, shared how improving her sleep made a big difference. “I used to wake up three or four times a night and felt foggy all day. Now, I make sure to wind down in the evening, and I’ve noticed I’m remembering more—and I have more energy for our book club discussions!”
How to Sleep Smarter
If you’ve been struggling to catch those Z’s, try these tips:- Stick to a schedule: Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day helps regulate your body’s internal clock.
- Create a calming routine: Whether it’s a warm bath, reading, or gentle stretches, find something that relaxes you before bed.
- Skip the late-night snacks: Heavy meals or caffeine too close to bedtime can keep you tossing and turning.
- Keep it cool and quiet: A comfortable sleep environment makes it easier to drift off and stay asleep.
Sleep isn’t just downtime—it’s your brain’s way of staying sharp, focused, and ready for whatever the day brings in senior apartments. A little effort to improve your rest can go a long way in boosting your memory and overall well-being. It’s one of the easiest ways to invest in yourself.
